Wunala Capital

Emerging Opportunities Fund

Overview

The Wunala Capital Emerging Opportunities Fund (the ‘Fund’) backs high-growth private and public companies in Australia, the USA and internationally. We typically invest across growth, late-stage/pre-IPO and listed stages.

We pursue capital growth for our investors, and believe we can generate alpha by finding companies poised to benefit from change and disruption. We are particularly interested in founders and leaders working on solutions to big problems in the following areas:

  • Data management and analytics

  • AI/ML

  • Enterprise and B2B SaaS

  • Electronic payments & financial services

  • Digital infrastructure

Key highlights of the Fund:

  • We are targeting a 20% IRR pre-tax, post fees (note that this is a target only and is not guaranteed. Returns may be materially lower, and investors may lose some or all of their capital)

  • Actively managing a portfolio of up to 25 positions - enough to be diversified without being spread too thin

  • Focus on finding and investing in high-growth companies with proven product-market fit, with our capital being used to accelerate growth and drive value

  • We are set up as an open-ended crossover fund which gives us the flexibility and patience to allocate capital across private and public strategies to wherever it generates superior risk-adjusted returns

  • We aim to strike a balance by structuring our private investments in a way that reduces downside risk yet maintains upside risk (for our investors as well as founders)

Our value proposition

strong returns

  • We are targeting a 20% IRR pre-tax, post fees (note that this is a target only and is not guaranteed. Returns may be materially lower, and investors may lose some or all of their capital)

  • We typically structure our investments to reduce downside risks yet retain significant upside

  • We reserve follow-on funding for our most promising investments

structured downside protection

  • We aim to structure our investments as convertible notes or preference equity, which rank ahead of ordinary equity in a liquidation scenario. However, this does not eliminate the risk of loss, and recovery in a default scenario is not guaranteed

  • Because a portion of the portfolio is in private investments valued periodically rather than daily, reported volatility may be lower than listed strategies

better deal flow

  • We generate early conversations with attractive investment opportunities and can better understand them by being on the ground where they operate

more optionality

  • We offer co-investment opportunities that are usually hard for most people to access
